The Last of Us Part II is one of my top 5 most anticipated games of 2020, but that’s not all The Last of Us fans have to look foward to this year. HBO programming president Casey Bloys has today confirmed the news that HBO will develop a TV series based on the video game in what will be the first television series to be produced by PlayStation Productions.
Neil Druckmann (WGA and BAFTA Award-winning writer and director) and Craig Mazin (Emmy®, Golden Globe and WGA Award-winner for HBO’s “Chernobyl” have been enlisted to lead development, who will also co-write, and executive produce the series. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us to partner with Craig, Neil, Carolyn and teams at Sony, Naughty Dog and PlayStation to bring the virtual world of this acclaimed game to life,” said Casey Bloys.
For those wondering, the TV series will only cover the events of the original game, meaning spoilers of the upcoming The Last of Us Part II won’t be present. HBO haven’t ruled out adding additional content to the show from The Last of Us Part II, which releases May 29, 2020.
