Today at the Ubisoft Forward event, Ubisoft revealed that Hyper Scapes open beta is free and available immediately for PC players worldwide. Hyper Scape is an upcoming first-person shooter battle royale set in an urban environment that pits 100 players against each other.
The developers hope to take over the battle royale genre with their fast based combat and crowd-pleasing game mechanics.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Hyper Scape is set in the distant future of 2054. Players will take control of one of the many powerful champions and utilize hacks and futuristic weapons in competition. One hundred contenders will descend upon the virtual city of Neo-Arcadia in each match and engage in action-packed combat to be crowned champion.
The Open Beta will feature four game modes. Crown Rush solo, Crown Rush trios, and two limited-time modes Hack Runner Squad and Turbo Mode Squad. The beta will also include a new weapon and hack along with the previously available nine weapons and hacks present in the Technical Test.
Hyper Scape’s Open Beta will also introduce new features to the Crowncast Twitch extension. Features include Battle Pass progression by watching live streams and streamers’ ability to invite viewers directly into their squad from Twitch chat.
Previously available Viewer Events make a return. These events allow all Twitch viewers to have a real-time impact on the game by voting on specific events that can affect all contenders within a match. Viewers can create chaos with Low Gravity or do things like spawn Infinite Ammo. The Open Beta also introduces an Event called Haste, which increases the game’s overall speed.
The beta includes a free 30 tier battle pass that comes alongside an in-game shop for purchasing customization options. All Open Beta progress and items will persist through future live phases and into the full launch. Season one plans to launch for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 late this summer.
Hyper Scape was designed from the ground up with Twitch in mind. The game has intense, vertical, and fast-paced action that aims to be new to the battle royal genre. Players will dive into the virtual city and engage in firefights that quickly transition from narrow streets to open rooftops and deadly interiors.
Hacks are Hyper Scapes abilities that players will loot in the world the same way they do weapons. Hacks can grant offensive or defensive capabilities to suit all kinds of playstyles. All Hacks and weapons can be upgraded in-game through the Fusion mechanic, thus creating more powerful iterations of each pre-existing item.
Hyper Scape hopes to innovate and bend the battle royale formula in new ways. Mechanics like, Unpredictable Decay dissolve the map of Neo-Arcadia into different patterns. The Echo mechanic will keep players active in the battle even when they’re down. Once the end of a Hyper Scape match begins, there is a climactic showdown phase. The Hyper Scape crown then spawns on the map, and players have two different ways to claim victory. They can pick up and carry the crown for 45 seconds or be the last player or squad standing.
A tremendous amount of work has gone into the world-building and lore of the game, and it shows. I think the devs have a lot more instore then what they are showing here. I can’t wait to jump into battle and see how the viewer based mechanics affect gameplay. Luckily I don’t have to, because Hyper Scape is in Open Beta and available to you right now for the fantastic price of FREE!
