Have you noticed a few big titles have recently disappeared from The Epic Game Store? You haven’t? Go search for Borderlands 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Oxygen Not Included or The Division 2. This is all due to the recent Mega Sale where many games across Epic Game Store’s entire catalogue are discounted up to 75%, along with a $10 discount applied to all games $15 and over. But how does this relate to games being removed from the Epic Game Store? Let me explain.
Discounted games are a win for everyone, right? Well, everyone except Developers and Publishers. Epic promised increased profits thanks largely to their 88/12 revenue split of distribution of games sold on their platform. So, when Epic announced their mega sale and informed developers and publishers that they’re planning on having discounts on all products, not everyone was happy.
“If a developer or publisher chooses to not participate in our sales, we will honour that decision. Paradox Interactive has chosen to not participate in the Epic Mega Sale and the game has been temporarily removed from sale”. Epic Games recently stated regarding Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 being temporarily removed from their store.\
Instead of allowing developers and publishers to have their titles exempted from being discounted, Epic have forced them to completely remove their title from the Epic Games Store. A strange move, especially considering that the $10 discount is covered by Epic Games, and not publisher or developer.
“During the Epic Mega Sale, developers and publishers are discounting a ton of great games up to 75% off. Also, for every game purchase over $14.99, Epic Games is providing an additional $10 off to players at no cost to the publisher or developer” Epic Games states.
Is there more to the story? Time will tell.
