Forget E3, forget PAX, forget Gamescom. Ubisoft Creative Director Julian Gerighty recently took to Twitter to casually announce that they’re working on the next Splinter Cell. Yes, that’s correct, Twitter. Julian followed up his groundbreaking Tweet with another casual Tweet “plz don’t retweet. I may be in trouble”. This is where things get interesting though, as Ubisoft were quick to post the following announcement regarding this news.
“Julian was obviously joking as Julian likes to do. It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We do not have any announcements to make at this time.”
Ever since the release of Blacklist in 2013, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting news of the next installment. Despite numerous rumors, even as recent as last year where Ubisoft chief creative officer Serge Hascoet said Ubisoft were “fighting for resources” for a new Splinter Cell, nothing has been confirmed.
Julian made a reference to E3, is this an indication of an official announcement of a new Splinter Cell at E3? As E3 is still the best part of a month away, we will just have to wait and see.
