Shaun Grimley Well, the first trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has dropped and I personally have mixed feelings about it. Sure, a live-action movie adaptation of everyone’s favorite hedgehog is a great thing for gaming fans, especially with a few big name actors such as Jim Carey as Dr. Robotnik. But it’s hard to ignore the bleeding obvious, the CGI version of Sonic. Sure, he’s quick and essentially a blue blur. But, he’s also very human-like. He has teeth, separate normal shaped eyes and a body most humans spend years for in the gym. Have the directors ruined Sonic us die-hard gamers love? Or have they simply updated Sonic for the current generation to appreciate? Only time will tell…
I never pictured Sonic as much of a gangsta, but perhaps I was wrong. “Gangsta’s Paradise” blasts through the speakers as Sonic (Ben Schwartz) begins stretching in preparation for his big adventure. The trailer initially portrays Sonic as the bad guy. As Sonic enjoys the local scenery as only Sonic can- at high speeds. This causes a massive power surge that captures the attention of the American military. This leads the army to call in the big guns, enter Dr. Ivo Robotik (Jim Carey). This is the beginning of the end as we all know the familiar Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman story.
What’s your opinion of the trailer? I can’t wait until November 8 for its release. I’m not expecting much, but hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised!
