Divinity: Original Sin 3? Or Baldur’s Gate 3? Larian Studios have posted a mysterious video on their website showing nothing more than a III, possibly hinting at their next major project. The obvious answer is Divinity: Original Sin 3, especially after the success that Larian Studio has achieved with both D:OS and D:OS2. However, with the recent announcement of Divinity: Fallen Heroes, a project where Larian Studios are outsourcing a majority of its development to developer Logic Artists, it makes you think Larian Studios are focused on a different project.
There’s further proof that this cryptic video is indeed referring to Baldur’s Gate 3. Twitter user Kunken has done his (or her) best Sherlock Holmes impersonation and revealed that if view the page source on the official Larian Studios website, save the video and open it in text editor, you’ll discover a number of references to Baldur’s Gate. This includes such references such as BaldursGate_logo_III_retouched.png, ©2019 Wizards of the Coast. All rights reserved and Baldur’s Gate and ©2019 Wizards of the Coast. All rights reserved. Baldur’s Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, and their respective logos are registered trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC. ©2019 Larian Studios.
If you’re a fan of Baldur’s Gate, which I assume you are if you’re reading this article, you may remember that last year there was a rumor in which Larian Studios had purchased the Baldur’s Gate licence. This was shot down by the developer, but it appears as if there was more to this than initially thought. Combine this with the ongoing development rumor of Baldur’s Gate 3 for the last 5 or 6 years, it seems as if it’s finally happening.
So, with E3 just around the corner and Larian Studios already teasing us, will we see an official announcement at E3? I hope so!
