Mario is turning 35 years old (the franchise, not the man himself) and Nintendo have some big plans for everyone’s favourite plumber. There has been multiple reports that Nintendo will announce that they’re planning to release “most of” the Mario back-catalogue on the Nintendo Switch as Super Mario All-Stars 2, and even possibly announce a Super Mario Movie?
While Nintendo has yet to confirm this news, VentreBeat are pretty confident in the news, reporting that “Nintendo is pursuing something like a Super Mario All-Stars 2 for the 3D Mario games. This would include Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and then Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2“.
So what exactly is ‘most of the Mario back catalouge’? Well, Nintendo plan to release remastered editions of some of your favourite 3D Mario games such as Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshrine, and of course, Super Mario 64. These titles will combine as a modern day Super Mario All-Stars and be released on the Switch, and possbily other Nintendo consoles such as the Wii U. According to the report, Nintendo will also release a deluxe edition of Super Mario 3D World that will include new content in the way of new levels.
All this news regarding Mario’s 35th Anniversary was originally supposed to take place at E3 in June. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, E3 was cancelled and now it appears as if Nintendo was waiting for the perfect time to release the news. There has even been some reports that this event will also announced a Super Nintendo World theme park and even an animated Super Mario movie.
