With the completion of The Chongqing Major, Valve have wasted little time in releasing patch 7.21. Sadly, there’s no Mars. We’re still waiting for Dota’s next hero to be released after Valve teased us with a February/March release.
Patch 7.21 brings the usual balancing act of items, heroes and gameplay in an attempt to change the current meta. As expected, popular items such as Vlad’s and Drums have received nerfs. While heroes such as Terrorblade, Juggernaut, Tusk, Timbersaw and Sven all felt the wrath of the nerf hammer. The big winner here may possibly be IO, who is temporally removed from captains mode as significant changes were made to Overcharge and Tether. Chaos Knight also received some nice buffs. Finally, the biggest game play change is the removal of ancients. They’ve been replaced with another hard camp, possibly making mid flash farm heroes such as Lina and SF more viable early game? Time will tell.
Dota Plus receives some much needed love in 7.21 with new exclusive sets for Monkey King, Medusa, Enchantress, and Centaur Warrunner. A new set of Seasonal Quests was also added to Dota Plus, is Dota Plus still worth the monthly fee? Slowly getting there IMO. 7.21 also marks the start of a new ranked season, which obviously means Rank Medals are reset. Also snucked into Ranked Season is a score value that’s based on your conduct summaries, meaning you can now view who is naughty, and who is nice.
“To mark the start of a new Ranked Season, all Rank Medals have been reset and players have a chance to recalibrate. In this new season, Rank Medals now have seven star tiers instead of five, offering more rank precision and opportunities to advance. As a bonus, players in each Rank tier will gain access to new emoticons based on their rank.” Taken from the official Dota 2 blog.
“Also included for the new ranked season, you can now see your numerical behavior score in your profile and conduct summaries, allowing greater insight into how conduct affects everyone’s enjoyment of the game.”
