Starbreeze Studios’ Overkill’s The Walking Dead was bad. So bad that it bought the studio to its knees and forced them to lay off a number of staff along with selling the publishing rights to a host of titles such as System Shock 2 and Psychonauts 2. But finally there’s some good news from the Swedish studio, as a recent blog post forcasts a positive cash flow following the restruction of the company.
In their post, “the company estimates that these cash flows will be positive, based on expected new publishing agreements in 2020 and an expected release of PAYDAY 3 in 2022–2023”. As Starbreeze Studios mentioned, their projected cash flow is expected due to a combined result of the anticipated release of PAYDAY 3 in 2022-2023, publishing agreement for PAYDAY 3, and publishing agreement for PAYDAY: Crime War mobile game, which is fantastic news for not only Starbreeze Studios, but also gamers as the PAYDAY series still draws an exceptional amount of players despite its age.
One thing is certain, Starbreeze will not allow another failed release such as Overkill’s The Walking Dead as it would surely be the death of the company. Nothing is more certain than PAYDAY 3 staying true to its roots and delivering a fun, action packed game that highlights and rewards team work… along with plenty of DLC, of course!
