How to quickly and easily share your phone screen using Facebook’s Messenger app.
Facebook Messenger has been around for 9 years now and in that time has grown to be so big that around 16% of the world’s population use it. That figure jumps to 20% if you exclude the Chinese population where the app is banned.
With so many active users it’s no wonder Facebook are working their collective butts off to keep Messenger fresh and engaging.
Recently the Messenger app was updated to allow users to share their screens with one another in real-time, either one on one or in a group call.
The benefits of screen sharing are fairly obvious, you can view photos together, look at a menu or it may even help you get some work done if you’re into that.
So, how do you do it I hear you ask?
- Start a video call from within Messenger
- Once connected swipe up from the bottom to bring up the expanded menu
- Select Share your screen
- That’s it, you’re sharing! Now switch to whatever app you’d like to share with the person, or people, in your call.

Pro tip, before you start sharing make sure you have closed any embarrassing or personal apps… you’ll only make that mistake once.
If you don’t see the option to Share your screen jump into the App Store or the Google Play store, depending on your device, and check your app is up to date.
Currently, you are restricted to sharing with a maximum of 8 people in group chat or 16 in Messenger Rooms. With future releases, Facebook plans on expanding this up to 50 people when using Rooms.
