DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part Two Review

The Ancient Gods Part Two

Strap in because Doom Eternal is back for one last round with Part Two of The Ancient Gods DLC. Bringing new weapons, maps, and enemies Part Two promises to be an epic conclusion to the Doom Eternal story.

The Story

At this late stage, we are way beyond the point of spoilers, if you haven’t played Doom Eternal or The Ancient Gods Part One then you’re really missing out, trust me, this is not the place to start. Go back, rip your way through the main story as well as The Ancient Gods Part One, then we can talk.

If you survive… I will be waiting for you in the city of Immora

Dark Lord

Picking up exactly where Part One left off we head deep into Immora to face the Dark Lord himself for one final battle.

Before facing his final foe Doom Slayer must first seek out the World Spear then head back to Reclaimed Earth to locate the Gate of Divum which will open the path to Immora.

What’s it like?

Some how Part Two manages to cram even more new content into a game that is already bursting at the seams with weapon mods, perks and power ups.

Seriously the hardest part of Doom Eternal is now trying to remember what weapons mods, power-ups, and combos deal the most damage to each Fodder, Heavy, Super Heavy, and Boss. Having not put much time into the game since completing Part One it took me a hot minute to get back into the swing of it, as is glaringly obvious if the first fight in the gameplay video below.

Boy-howdy though, once you manage to get your head back into Doom mode it’s nearly impossible not to enjoy this latest campaign addition.

Special mention to the Super Shotgun’s Meat Hook which now works on grapple points scattered through out the maps bringing yet another traversal option into the game.

What’s New?

As was the case with Part One, Part Two is packed with new content.

Once again we are treated to three new maps, The World Spear, Reclaimed Earth, and Immora, each with their own unique look and feel.

Ready to pound your enemies into the ground with the war hammer originally wielded by Commander Valen? Well, you’re in luck as The Sentinel Hammer finds Its way into The Ancient Gods Part Two allowing you to stun demons and extract bulk resources from them.

We are graced with a total of 6 new and modified demons all of which force you to use every piece of kit in your arsenal to dispose of them swiftly before you get overwhelmed.

And of course, we also get one new epic boss fight against none other than The Dark Lord. The battle with The Dark Lord has its own twists and turns with its own unique elements. For example, the Dark Lord is able to extract health from Doom Slayer similar to the way you extract health when defeating demons which has the ability to quickly tip the scales mid-fight.

How big is it?

Expect about 3 to 4 hours of gameplay, my advice though would be to take your time, really master every weapon and mod, and learn to capitalize on each demon’s weak spot. Enjoy ripping and tearing your way through the final pieces of this masterful single-player campaign.

Graphics and Audio

The music and audio continue to impress and really combine to bring a raw, driving energy that keeps the player immersed in the brutal action.

Backing it all up is the id Tech 7 engine which brings with it beautiful and vast environments that encourage players to traverse with dashes, swings, double jumps and grapples.
