PNY has long been a recognisable name in the world of computers, especially when it comes to memory. For more than 30 years PNY has been dedicated to sourcing, testing, and manufacturing memory. Over recent years, PNY has also made the foray into the gaming world through their XLR8 products.
As avid gamers, we are here to help you achieve the ultimate gaming experience by combining YOUR passion for the game with XLR8’s core components.– PNY
PNY promises a high level of performance at an incredibly competitive price with the XLR8 DDR4 3600MHz RAM. So, does PNY deliver on this very enticing offer?
Let’s find out!
When it comes to RAM, and other components of a PC, the days of simple practicality have passed. Today, the internal design of your PC, and its components, are just as important as any other aspect of your setup. It seems that PNY understands this, as evidenced by the design of this RAM.
Available in black and white variants, the XLR8 DDR4 looks great. There is clear XLR8 branding, including a large red chevron, and bold lines echoing the same branding along the RAM’s face, all completed with a smooth matte finish. Module dimensions size in at 14.5cm x 4.64cm x 0.635cm so make sure you check clearance if you are building in a small form factor case.
Another impressive aspect is the EPIC-X RGB LED lighting strip, made of opaque white plastic. The standard setting is a rainbow mix of colours, but this can be changed with supported Asus Aura Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, MSI Mystic Light Sync and ASRock Polychrome Sync software. This is excellent news as it saves having another piece of software installed solely to control one component.

Whilst the design of components matters, the performance is even more important. With the XLR8 DDR4 3600MHz, PNY promises top speeds, high bandwidth, low latency and efficient power usage – essentially everything you want from a component of this nature.
By all accounts, it’s safe to say that PNY delivers on all of these fronts. Once the DOCP (AMD Direct Over Clock Profile) was enabled in the BIOS speed was locked in at 3600MHz without a hitch. Assisted by aluminium heat spreaders also ensures temperatures are kept in check during long sessions.
Test System – Benchmarks
Our test system is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X running on an ASUS ROG Strix X570-F. With DOCP enabled we ran the XLR8 DDR4 3600MHz through both AIDA64 and PassMark Advanced Memory benchmarks with respectable results. AIDA64 resulted in 50419 MB/s read and 28764 MB/s write. While PassMark Memory Speed Per Block Size gave us averages of 11277 MB/s read and 8810 MB/s write. While gaming the XLR8 DDR4 3600MHz also delivered a great experience without issues while putting in some late nights into Battlegrounds, Overwatch and Age of Empires IV over the holiday season.
